Maria Montessori believed that children acquire a knowledge of the world through their senses. As a physician, she created a very precise set of sensorial materials to help promote and increase early childhood development. These unique materials were designed to allow a child to learn at their own pace, following their own interests. Montessori observed that the most important period of life, in terms of physical, emotional and intellectual maturation, occurs at this crucial time. As she discovered, the senses are never more alive and impressionable. Specifically constructed to offer immediate and positive feedback, these scientifically tested materials have been in existence for over one hundred years.
