THE MONTESSORI PHILOSOPHY
The Prepared Environment
Dr. Montessori developed what she called the "prepared environment" which includes concepts of individual freedom in the context of classroom order and structure. The Montessori environment is carefully prepared to meet and respect the intellectual, emotional, and physical needs of each child. The environment also considers the physical size and needs of the child. Each area of the physical environment has a specific a and defined order and purpose. The children thrive in this environment as it is based on the child's needs and not the convenience of the adult.
